Changpeng Zhao, the CEO of Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange, stated he is "actually not that affluent" after being featured on the cover of Fortune magazine. The 44-year-projected old's net worth is $74 billion, according to the magazine, and the Bitcoin surge has made him as wealthy as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg "almost overnight."
In the most recent edition of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Changpeng Zhao's net worth was estimated to be $62.9 billion, putting him in 19th place globally. In this coveted global ranking of affluent individuals, Zuckerberg is ranked 12th with $85.1 billion.
"Really not that rich, yet thrilled to be included on the cover," billionaire Zhao commented on Twitter.
Meanwhile, with a fortune of $273 billion, Tesla CEO Elon Musk remained at the top of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Jeff Bezos of Amazon is in second place with $188 billion, and French business magnate Bernard Arnault is in third place with $148 billion.
With $133 billion and $127 billion, respectively, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are ranked fourth and fifth on the index.
Returning to Zhao, the 44-year-old is the CEO of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, with a market capitalization of $300 billion, nearly six times that of its nearest US-based competitor, Coinbase, according to Fortune magazine.
Zhao, on the other hand, told the magazine that he was not affluent as a child.
Zhao was raised in a small town in Jiangsu Province, China, after his father was expelled from a larger city due to his “bourgeois leanings.” Food rationing was a part of his childhood, he told Fortune.
