The largest and most important conference for the Cosmos ecosystem will be held in Medellin, Colombia, on September 26. A sizable portion of the Cosmos community is anticipated to travel there.
This is Cosmoverse's second event and aims to become one of the major drivers behind the expansion of the immense Cosmos. Numerous developers, financiers, entrepreneurs, and journalists came together last year at the Cosmoverse event in Lisbon, Portugal, to raise awareness of the Cosmos ecosystem.
The two-day event in Medellin is expected to draw an even larger crowd thanks to its action-packed schedule and dozens of speakers.
To learn more about the upcoming occasion, CryptoSlate chatted with Juri Maibaum and Fabian Klauder, the co-founders of Cosmoverse.
In 2022, the Cosmos ecosystem grew in a way that had never been seen before. In addition to having $1.4 billion in total value locked (TVL), Cosmos also saw the wildly successful launch of its Inter-Blockchain Communication Protocol (IBC) and anticipates other well-known projects, like dYdX, would shift their operations to a Cosmos-based blockchain.
According to Maibaum, the IBC is mostly to blame for the expansion of the Cosmos ecosystem. He pointed out that some of the most significant market abuses in the last two years occurred on cross-chain bridges, highlighting the demand for a safe bridging protocol. To secure their protocols, more projects are looking toward enabling IBC since it essentially eliminates the requirement for cross-chain bridges. Any blockchain with support for light clients may easily activate IBC, according to Maibaum, a feature that will undoubtedly increase the adoption of the innovative technology.
“The Cosmos SDK opened several avenues for projects because it was possible to put up its customized blockchain. By having their chain, more projects can achieve greater customization and flexibility, which a) can improve UX and b) enables projects to extract more fees from the value they create. This is particularly intriguing in light of MEV. The first significant Ethereum dApp to decide to start its blockchain was DYDX, he said.
Klauder thinks that many developers are still not familiar with the resources that Cosmos offers. The promotion of the Cosmos ecosystem and the recruitment of new community members and developers are two critical objectives of Cosmoverse events.
“We discovered that even very skilled members of the Ethereum ecosystem were unaware of the benefits of Cosmos during our first Cosmoverse conference in Lisbon in 2021. Our goal with Cosmoverse is to rectify that.
Targeting one of the blockchain and cryptocurrency marketplaces in Latin America, which is one of the fastest-growing regions, is one-way Cosmoverse plans to do so.
Although Maibaum stated that the event had no specific plans to target the Latin American market, they believed Colombia had the most room for expansion.
“The crypto market in South America is one of the most fascinating in the world. At the moment, Medellin is becoming Latam’s technology center. Additionally, the Colombian Peso’s high inflation rate makes the cryptocurrency market’s adoption potential quite strong. It is impossible to remain unexcited about what is happening in this region if you constantly monitor the Colombian developer market.
Devcon, the largest Ethereum development conference in the world, is also taking place in Colombia, which undoubtedly helped. Thousands of builders and developers will assemble in Bogota from October 7 to October 16 for the annual Devcon Week. According to Maibaum, the proximity of the two events will aid in drawing attendees from the Ethereum environment.
Students and developers from Colombia are eligible for free admission to the conference, thanks to Cosmoverse.
In September and October 2022, Colombia is the place to be if you’re into cryptocurrencies, according to Maibaum.
