Sebastian Maniscalco, a top stand-up comedian in the New York region, astonished audiences by handing out free commemorative NFTs to all ticketholders at his gigs – the first comedian to do so with next-generation digital collectible technology.
The complementary NFTs (nonfungible tokens) made by the observational comedian's wife, Lana Gomez, are one-of-a-kind for each show. Ticketmaster's gold-shaded NFTs show each ticketholder's individual section, row, and seat. NFT owners will have first access to Maniscalco specials and events in the future.
“I have never done this before and hell — who knows — I may never do it again!” Maniscalco told announcing the NFT freebies on social media.
Fans who bought tickets to Maniscalco’s “Nobody Does This Tour” in Toronto (March 19), Madison Square Garden (March 21), Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. (March 23), Barclays Center in Brooklyn (March 24), and UBS Arena in Belmont Park, N.Y. will be eligible for the complimentary NFTs (March 26).
“I have always looked at New York City as a second home, and I have always had a special connection with the people of the city,” Maniscalco told.
His four New York-area gigs have drawn over 80,000 people, building on sold-out arena shows that featured a comedy record of 21,286 people at Chicago’s United Center and the greatest gross for a single event at Boston’s TD Garden.
The comedian is using the NFT craze, which shows no signs of slowing down, to increase engagement with his followers while also setting the basis for future promotions. Maniscalco is working on the NFT initiative with Ticketmaster, which helped deliver over 500,000 NFTs to football fans during the regular season and Super Bowl LVI.
“Connecting digital collectibles to the live event experience is still in its infancy,” said David Marcus, Ticketmaster’s EVP for music. “Sebastian is an adventurous artist, and it’s exciting to see how he is envisioning how fans collect in a digital world.”
A percentage of the revenues from the “Nobody Does This Tour” will go to Maniscalco and Gomez’s Tag You’re It! charity, which helps American soldiers, Alzheimer’s patients, and children’s education.
Maniscalco is concluding work on his film “About My Father,” which is currently in post-production, in addition to his U.S. comedy tour. His life and relationship with his father, played by Robert De Niro, are partially inspired on the Lionsgate comedy. Maniscalco’s tenure in Las Vegas will continue next month. He also has a cooking-comedy show on Discovery Plus called “Well Done With Sebastian Maniscalco.”
