Rap artists Snoop Dogg and Eminem have just created a music video in which their Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) avatars are animated.
"From The D 2 The LBC" is the song's title, and the video begins with a glimpse of Eminem ready to record in the booth. Yo, why is it so smokey in here, man?" he asks Snoop, who is smoking a small log-sized blunt in the control room.
Then, Eminem gets high from the passive smoking, and the couple physically transforms into Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs in a mixed cartoon/real-world setting. The song debuted after this year's ApeFest, an annual event for BAYC and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) members held in Manhattan, New York.
His Twitter profile image shows that Eminem is a proud Bored Ape NFT holder. At the end of the previous year, he acquired the avatar for 123.45 ETH ($452,000 at the time). On OpenSea, he appears to have bought 26 more NFTs under the name “Shady Holdings.”
Snoop Dogg collaborated with MoonPay about the same time to get one BAYC, one Bored Ape Kennel Club mate, and two MAYCs.
However, Snoop has been engrossed in cryptocurrency for some time. Early in 2021, the rapper joined KISS bassist Gene Simmons and Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Twitter in a Dogecoin meme train.
Five hours after Snoop tweeted a retouched picture of his album R&G (Rhythm and Gangsta), he received the following response: The Masterpiece, which depicts the Shiba Inu that inspired Dogecoin, increased the price of the popular meme coin by 22%.
In the spring of that year, he released his own branded collector NFTs and a collaboration with the author of the famous meme Nyan Cat that sold at auction for $35,000.
He doxxed himself as the NFT-collecting Twitter figure Cozomo de’ Medici in September last year. At the time, his wallet included around $17 million worth of Ethereum NFTs, including nine CryptoPunks.
Snoop unveiled plans to build Dr. Bombay’s Sweet Exploration, an “immersive retail dessert experience” that will include the rapper’s BAYC avatar, earlier this month.
In addition to owning digital property in The Sandbox, Snoop has sponsored events in the NFT-powered metaverse.
