Animoca Brands has purchased two big video game companies in less than a week: Eden Games and Darewise Entertainment.
Tuesday, Animoca Brands, The Sandbox's parent business, added Eden Games to its portfolio. Popular racing game series published by Eden Games include Gear. Club and Test Drive. Animoca expects this deal to strengthen its REVV Motorsport blockchain-based racing games ecosystem on Polygon.
Animoca said on Wednesday that it would acquire Paris-based game company Darewise Entertainment, created by former Ubisoft executives and other AAA games industry veterans. Life Beyond is a new play-to-earn (P2E) massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by Darewise. According to VentureBeat, Animoca Brands decided to acquire a 70 percent share in Darewise Entertainment.
In a Twitter thread, Yat Siu, co-founder, and chairman of Animoca Brands explained some of the reasons for the acquisition.
Siu mentioned the aggregate experience of Darewise’s crew in games such as Assassin’s Creed and The Division as one of the essential aspects. Life Beyond, a play about a hostile extraterrestrial world, is presently in closed alpha development using the Unreal Engine. He stated, “Expect many collaborations, partnerships, and interoperable experiences + the greatest quality.”
According to the business, Life Beyond seeks to “empower players to make decisions both on an individual level through their own play choices and on a collective one by making crucial decisions on the game’s future path.”
Thursday, Darewise revealed on Twitter that it had acquired a Bored Ape Yacht Club nonfungible token (NFT) dubbed Franck. The specifics of BAYC members’ “support” and ApeCoin assistance have not yet been disclosed.
Moreover, Animoca Brands recently co-led a $5 million seed round for the P2E mobile game Blast Royale alongside the investment company Mechanism Capital. First Light Games is the creator of Blast Royale and other well-known titles, including Monument Valley, Fable, Street Fighter, and Tomb Raider.
